What does wire gauge mean?
Wire gauge refers to the thickness of the steel wire used in chain link fencing. A lower number means thicker, stronger wire. Imara Wires produces chain link in G12, G14 and G16 at our Nairobi-area factory.
G16 chain link — the standard choice
G16 is the most widely used gauge for general perimeter fencing in Kenya — schools, residential compounds and light commercial sites. It offers an excellent balance of strength and affordability.
G14 chain link — medium duty
G14 provides additional strength for sites that need more durability — commercial warehouses, higher-traffic areas and longer fence spans without extra posts.
G12 chain link — heavy duty
G12 is the heaviest gauge we produce, suited for high-security applications, industrial perimeters and locations where maximum strength is required.
Mesh size and height matter too
Beyond gauge, consider mesh opening (30×30mm to 95×95mm) and roll height (4ft–8ft). Tighter mesh improves security; taller rolls reduce the number of horizontal runs needed.
